On This Topic

Sproule ERCE supported INEOS Energy with a Competent Person’s Report (CPR) for Project Greensand, part of the First Carbon Chain initiative, an active carbon capture and storage (CCS) project that has since become the first full-scale CO₂ storage site in the European Union. The milestone reflects the continued evolution of CCS from concept to commercial operation and highlights the growing role of independent technical assessments in supporting emerging carbon storage infrastructure.

Independent Technical Assessment

The CPR provided an independent technical assessment to support informed decision-making and stakeholder confidence as the project progressed toward commercial operation. Independent evaluations play an important role in providing transparent, technically grounded information for project developers and other stakeholders involved in complex subsurface projects.

Multidisciplinary Technical Support

A multidisciplinary Sproule ERCE team contributed expertise spanning geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, geomechanics, and risk evaluation. This integrated technical approach supported the assessment of a pioneering CCS project as it advanced toward operational deployment.

A Milestone for Carbon Storage in Europe

The Project Greensand, led by INEOS Energy as part of the First Carbon Chain initiative, is now operating as the first full-scale CO₂ storage site in the European Union, demonstrating how CCS is progressing toward commercial-scale implementation and helping establish infrastructure that can support future carbon storage initiatives across Europe.

Sproule ERCE acknowledges the contributions of INEOS Energy, Project Greensand, First Carbon Chain, and the technical teams involved in advancing this landmark achievement.
