Dr. John Campbell “Cam” Sproule establishes J. C. Sproule and Associates in Calgary, beginning as a small geological consulting firm.

ERC Energy Resource Consultants is founded, with David Wilson as a shareholder and Chairman. Tony Edgington becomes president of Sproule and the company becomes employee-owned.

Sproule’s consultancy is officially renamed Sproule Associates Limited, reflecting the company’s growth and formalization as a corporate entity. This change marks a key step in establishing its professional consulting presence.

ERCE origins established in the UK: David Wilson founded Energy Resource Consultants (ERC), and Don Scott co-founded geophysics firm Scott Pickford.

Sproule International Limited is incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary, headquartered in Calgary.

Sproule Associates Inc. is incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary, headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

Following the sale of Scott Pickford, Don Scott, Charles Wood, and Mark Holliday establish Equipoise Solutions.

Sproule was amid rapid growth, momentum fueled by a reputation for technical excellence and trusted certification. As demand surged, the company expanded its footprint, opening new offices in Denver and Houston, solidifying its position as a leading authority in reserves evaluation across North America.

David Wilson and Simon McDonald revive ERC Energy Resource Consultants as an independent consultancy.

ERC Equipoise (ERCE) is formed through the merger of ERC Energy Resource Consultants and Equipoise Solutions, uniting decades of shared experience and leadership in independent energy consultancy.

Sproule expanded its presence in key markets through the acquisition of Niven Fischer, an established asset management firm. The move added depth to Sproule’s technical capabilities and reflected a broader strategy to offer integrated solutions across the energy value chain.

ERC Equipoise rebrands as ERCE, reflecting the company’s growth in services and technical expertise, and its expansion beyond traditional oil and gas. In the same year, Sproule opens a new office in Mexico City.

Sproule re-entered the U.S. market through the acquisition of MHA Petroleum Consultants, a move that reinforced its position in North America’s upstream sector. That same year, the company expanded its global footprint with the opening of an office in The Hague, strengthening its presence in Europe and access to international clients.

ERCE opens offices in Perth and Malaysia and launches ERC Evolution for decarbonisation and GHG support.

Sproule establishes its geothermal consulting team through the acquisition of Veegeo, a Dutch advisory firm based in Rotterdam. The acquisition brings Veegeo’s specialized geothermal expertise together with Sproule’s global energy consulting platform, strengthening the company’s capabilities in renewable energy.

ERCE opens its Canada office and unifies ERCE and ERC Evolution under a single master brand, strengthening its global presence and integrated service offering.

Sproule and ERCE join forces to form Sproule ERCE, uniting two industry leaders to create a global powerhouse in energy consulting. This merger enhances our combined capabilities, broadens our expertise, and strengthens our commitment to delivering world-class solutions across the energy sector.
